HOW do YOU WANT to LEARN?

To meet the needs of students, Northwoods E-Foils offers a number of different options for learning.  Before hitting the water, for the first time, all students must complete a safety screening and waiver, and all sessions will begin with basic ground training and a safety brief.  Apart from that, students will also need to determine what sort of instructions they might prefer based upon group size, venue preference, and/or experience level.  Students or group representatives are asked to review the pricing chart and complete the screening form as included below.

"Ground Training" & Safety Brief

Safety, safety, safety. Like it or not, ALL lessons begin with safety and a briefing. Sure, you could show up with the latest Wisconsin boater's regulation pamphlet committed to memory, but with E-foiling, there are things that neither the government nor your mother have yet to warn you about. All students will be made aware of hazards on, in, and above the water... of ALL types, be they seen and unforeseen.

"One on One" Singles Sessions

Are you shy? A perfectionist? Short on time? An undecided buyer trying to hone in on equipment brands and gear? Frustrated in dealing with a more dynamic group lesson? A lonely trendsetter that couldn't find a companion with your sense of adventure? Whatever the reason you are learning alone, maybe a "one on one" singles E-Foiling lesson would be best for you if sharing time with other students just isn't on your radar.

"House Call" Lesson Sessions

Some people are more comfortable in their own homes or back yards... and the same can be said for lakes. Maybe you know your waters down to every lily pad, cattail, stone, and stump, and would like to try E-foiling with a "home field advantage", so to speak. Maybe you've got guests that you'd like to treat to a lesson and others to entertain as lessons are underway. Whatever the reason, NorthWoods E-foils does make house calls.

"Free-for-all" Group Sessions

Let's face it: sometimes trying to attain some measure of cohesion in group activities is like herding cats... or maybe fish. People learn at different rates, have different levels of stamina, and exhibit different interests. While we can commit to giving all students equal time and attention, group lessons offer ample flexibility where less structure might prove to benefit all students participating.

"Explorer" Touring Sessions

Because every E-foil ride is a lesson unto itself, "touring" lessons are offered for those wanting to practice their foiling without a whistle-blasting coach telling them to do much of anything. For those that want to learn at their own pace or those that could not check their own E-foil gear and batteries with their luggage, NorthWoods E-foils is offering a way to give them back their freedom... even though the tours are chaperoned.

"Tag Team" Couples Sessions

"Tag Team" sessions are not just for professional wrestlers, for codependent relationships, or romantically involved couples, they actually have some practical advantages. By taking turns with another student, you'll get to learn from their mistakes away from the E-foil, and apply what you've learned when it's your turn. Board sharing and taking turns also gives you time to rest and reflect between tries.

What does it take to LEARN to E-Foil?

As intimidating as it may appear or sound, the path to learning to E-foil isn’t beyond your reach.  The basics entail:

  • An introduction to basic hydrofoil principles and E-foil board anatomy.
  • day of sobriety (you can’t learn walk on water if you can’t walk a straight line on the pavement).
  • Basic safety gear (PFD and helmet available with your lesson).
  • Situational awareness of local waters, shorelines, traffic, and hazards.
  • An e-foil board (included with lessons), a few helpful pointers, and the ability to follow simple instructions.
  • Compliance to Wisconsin’s boating regulations (e-foils are presently classified as personal watercraft).
  • An adventurous can-do attitude and willingness to get a little wet!
While those are the bare minimum requirements, there is the matter of planning and logistics, which the screening form below is designed to help you navigate so that you and your family and friends can join you in an epic lesson of a lifetime!  Those booking lessons (via button beneath the Lesson and Tour Pricing Schedule) should at a minimum review factors pertaining to lesson planning below before booking.
